Founded in 1996 by Pat McGirl, McGirls Money Management Limited has grown to become one of Bedford’s most trusted financial practices. HOW IT ALL STARTED
THE BEGINNING
In January 1996, Pat McGirl opened the doors of McGirls Money Management alongside Rory Doyle from their first office at 14–16 Bromham Road. Built on trust, personality, and genuine care for clients, the foundations of the business were set from day one.
1996
Louise Morgan joins the business
Louise Morgan joins the business as an Office Junior, providing administrative support to Pat following the company’s rapid growth during its first two years.
Since then, Louise has progressed within the organisation and now serves as Administration Manager. She remains a key member of the team and plays a crucial role in the day-to-day operations of the business.
1998
Strengthening the Team
Ken Moore joined the firm in December 1999, beginning a long-standing relationship that continues to this day and helping shape the culture and consistency of the business.

GROWTH & RECOGNITION
The early 2000s marked a period of rapid growth. The firm welcomed several advisers who remain integral to the business today, including Mark Wharton, Mark Scott, Martin Bates, and Dave Simms.
This success was recognised with multiple network awards, including the network’s top prize in 2002, when Pat and Rory won a trip to the World Cup in Japan. A few years later, Mark Wharton’s achievements were celebrated with a Harley-Davidson motorbike.
In 2004, the business moved to 21 St Cuthberts Street, its home for the next decade.
2000
LOSS & LEGACY
In 2005, the business faced its greatest challenge with the passing of founder Pat McGirl. His wife Linda remained actively involved in the firm, becoming a key part of the office environment. Rory Doyle took the lead, carrying forward Pat’s vision. Pat’s passion, warmth, and larger-than-life personality remain a defining part of the firm’s identity and are still spoken about today.

BUILDING TRUST
Under Rory’s leadership, McGirls Money Management continued to grow in both size and reputation, becoming the most trusted local practice and a well-respected name in the community.
2005 - 2014
A NEW HOME
In 2014, the firm relocated to 7 Goldington Road, where it continued to serve clients for the next ten years before later moving on to Kempston.

A STEP FORWARD
During this period, the business welcomed several key additions to the team: Liam Mulkerins in 2017, Ben Davis in 2018, and Jamie Lymer in 2021. These new recruits brought fresh energy and perspective to the company, making significant contributions to its continued growth. Their ideas and drive helped move the business forward and played an important role in shaping its development and ambitions for the future.

THE NEXT GENERATION
In 2025, Rory Doyle and Linda McGirl passed the reins to three long-standing advisers — Mark Wharton, Ben Davis, and Jamie Lymer. United by a shared commitment to the firm’s values and legacy, they launched a new chapter focused on revitalising the business through people, brand, and process development. This included returning the firm to its home on Goldington Road, welcoming new advisers, and introducing the McGirls Academy — a programme designed to create a supportive, structured pathway into a career in finance.
